MEDIEVALdress
December 2007
This dress was probably about 6 months in the making, and I think that's because it didn't really inspire me. It's relatively boring compared to the other kinds of dresses I've been making lately, and I actually really didn't like the fabric I was using. A Lord of the Rings-esque dress like this deserves velvets and brocades and yummy trimmings to make it look good. I think I only finished this one to get it out of the way. I had some construction difficulty too - as the fabric was so thin and flimsy I ended up with an uneven hem; the trimming around the neck is a bit ski-wiff; and the girdle was supposed to hide the pleated skirt seam at the back, but didn't.
I'll make some more one day, as I do really like the styles of the Medieval period. And I can't have this one sitting here all by itself.
