SILVER1930s dress

Silver 1930s bias cut dress.

December 2007

I made this dress from Simplicity pattern # 4270, and it was made out of a thick silver-coloured curtain I scored. The last 1930s dress I made (the royal blue one), I made from a Simplicity pattern as well, and I made it a size 8, and it ended up being a little to big. So I thought for the style of the silver one, a size 8 would have been a perfect fit, but it wasn't to be so. I couldn't even get it on the first time I tried it, after which I had to take out the side seams a little and also the darts in the back panels. And only then was it almost right. But the shoulders seem a bit wide, because they have a tendency to fall off. Or maybe that's just because the front and back neckline are so low. Ignore any stains you can see on the fabric too - I washed the curtain initially, but the way the dress turned out, I didn't think it was worth attending again to any of the more stubborn ones.

But anyway, again, a good learning experience. The dress is fully lined, and actually quite comfortable, but I think the fabric is a little too thick for the style, especially the sleeves. I think it needs some thinner satin or something.
