Renaissance Dress. Ever After

2007

This dress was inspired by a costume from the film Ever After with Drew Barrymore. Fans on the internet call it the 'Freedom Gown'. The gold dress itself is of course made of old curtains, and the white underskirt and lining is made from an old flannelette bedsheet. The arms are made out of a thick cotton fabric that used to line a curtain, and the arm bands are flannelette on one side, and the leftover green fabric from my firstElizabethandress on the other, with interfacing inbetween for strength. So this dress is surprisingly warm to wear - even on the overcast and drizzly day when we took the photos. The arm bands are tied together through rivets with decorative string and attached to the bodice at the top of the arm holes.

The arm bands could be a bit tighter, the arm holes could be a bit bigger, and the skirt could be a bit shorter (I had to hitch it up a very unglamorous amount to actually walk around in it properly) but other than that I'm very pleased with it. The bodice back fit very snugly this time - and wasn't pulled down by the back of the skirt as with my Regency dress. So not bad for another costume made without a pattern.
