This is the first dress I ever made, as a teeny tiny little 17-year old. I made it for my 7th form school formal in 2002. This is where the genius began, folks.

It's made out of an old kimono-style dressing gown that I found at a school fair. I basically just stitched the sides up, fitted the bodice, put some lacing on the back to help make it fit, and put some straps on. And I think it's also hilarious how the dress retained a pocket on the side of it. I think I kept my lip balm in it all night. So yeah, it was pretty awesome going to the formal in an exclusively unique dress that didn't cost me $200, like pretty much everyone else from that school did. I loved wearing it.
