ATONEMENTreproduction
September 2009
I am SO happy with how the Atonement dress turned out. Of course it's not an exact reproduction, but I think that's better because it means it's a genuinely one-of-a-kind gown. And Kymberley looked absolutely GORGEOUS in it!
As I mentioned in the journal entries of it's construction, we used Vogue pattern #7635, and all I needed to do to it was add the ties around the hips, make the skirt a bit fuller, add the waistband, and of course rearrange the placement of the straps. The dress is cut on the bias, and is fully lined right down to the hem. I also cut the ties on the bias so they would hang nicely down the front of the skirt. The binding on the neckline and the straps is self-fabric (which I've since learnt is not the easiest to do with satin) and the waistband is also self-fabric with two layers of interfacing for reinforcement.
Kymberley's 21st was an "Old Hollywood Glamour" theme, and everyone looked amazing. The lads were in suits and ties and waistcoats and hats, and the ladies were in dresses and high heels and pearls and diamonds. I was definitely in my element. As you can see from the picture of the both of us, I chose to wear my silver 1930s dress. And after two years of it sitting in a box, I'm glad it (pretty much) still fits.
